Old Lane Mill, or Rawson's Mill as it was commonly known, in Halifax is one of the oldest and largest surviving example of an iron framed, steam powered textile mill. Built between 1825-28, Old Lane Mill is a Grade ll* multi-storey, classical style worsted mill with an adjacent boiler house and integral chimney. The mill and boiler house were last used as warehousing but this ceased circa 2002. Both buildings have since undergone significant deterioration and vandalism.
A planning application, on behalf of Airedale Properties, has now been approved and work is underway to convert the mill into 58 apartments comprising 38 x 1-bedroom and 20 x 2-bedroom apartments. In addition, the boiler house will be converted in to two houses.
A masterplan has also been developed for additional residential developments on the Old Lane mill site.
