Ponden Mill near Stanbury, is a Grade-II listed building constructed in 1791 as a cotton mill. A chimney was added in 1825 when the mill converted from water power to steam power. It is one of the earliest and best remaining examples of a cotton mill built in Yorkshire. The mill was bought by Barry Brookfield in 1973 who created a factory shop and cafe visitor attraction. As a result of the demise of the Ponden Mill retail chain, the mill was closed in 2008. Within a week of its closure the mill was vandalised with the roof, floor and internal wiring all stolen. The mill remained derelict for a further 6 years prior to its sale.
Owners Richard and Barbara Trainer have painstakingly regenerated the mill to create an events space, bespoke accommodation, café, bar and camp ground facilities. The 'Falling Water' inspired cabin created on the site has recently been featured in George Clarke's 'Amazing Spaces', tv programme.
